Battery is the primary power source for any electronics wireless gadget, be it a smartphone, laptop, watch or remote.

A battery is a collection of one or more cells that go under chemical reactions to create the flow of electrons within a circuit. There is lot of research and advancement going on in battery technology, and as a result, breakthrough technologies are being experienced and used around the world currently. Batteries came into play due to the need to store generated electrical energy. As much as a good amount of energy was being generated, it was important to store the energy so it can be used when generation is down or when there is a need to power standalone devices which cannot be kept tethered to the supply from the mains.

List of battery types

A battery is a device consisting of one or more electrochemical cells with external connections [1] for powering electrical devices such as flashlights , mobile phones , and electric cars. When a battery is supplying electric power , its positive terminal is the cathode and its negative terminal is the anode. When a battery is connected to an external electric load, a redox reaction converts high-energy reactants to lower-energy products, and the free-energy difference is delivered to the external circuit as electrical energy. Primary single-use or " disposable " batteries are used once and discarded, as the electrode materials are irreversibly changed during discharge; a common example is the alkaline battery used for flashlights and a multitude of portable electronic devices. Secondary rechargeable batteries can be discharged and recharged multiple times using an applied electric current; the original composition of the electrodes can be restored by reverse current. Examples include the lead-acid batteries used in vehicles and lithium-ion batteries used for portable electronics such as laptops and mobile phones.

Common Battery Types

There is more than just one kind of lithium-ion battery, and not all are created equal. Lithium-ion batteries are essential to modern technology , powering cell phones, laptops, medical devices and even electric vehicles. Manufacturers commonly use lithium carbonate or lithium hydroxide in these batteries rather than lithium metal. Although lithium is a key ingredient in lithium-ion batteries, they also include other metals, such as cobalt , graphite and nickel. But which lithium-ion battery types are used for which applications? There is more than one type of lithium-ion battery, and not all are created equal.

In this tutorial, we will learn about one of the important components in Electrical and Electronic Systems: A Battery. We will see some basic information about a battery, take a look at different types of Batteries and also a guide on what Battery Type is suitable for your application. Whether you are an Electrical Engineer or not, you might have come across atleast a couple of different types of batteries in your life. Some of the common places where you use batteries are a wall clocks, alarms or smoke detectors which uses small disposable batteries or cars, trucks or motor cycles which uses relatively large rechargeable batteries. Batteries have become a very important source of energy in the last decade or so.

Batteries came into play due to the need to store generated electrical energy. Batteries generally can be classified into different categories and.

Common Battery Types Batteries are groups of electrochemical cells connected in series or in parallel. Parallel connections all anodes connected, all cathodes connected result in no change to the overall voltage of the circuit, while series connections anode of one cell to cathode of the next multiply the voltage by the number of cells. This diagram shows a parallel connection of four 1. In order to store electrical energy, the cells must be readily reversible. Lead Acid These are the most common type of batteries used in automobiles and to store solar energy because they can provide high current and their cost is relatively low.

Long back ago, the only way of making portable energy was either steam or fuel. After the invention of the battery, life has become easier than ever. Nowadays, everyone is looking for portable machines to ease their day to day tasks. In that case, batteries are capable of fulfilling the need of producing energy on the go.

Batteries are the most common power source for basic handheld devices to large scale industrial applications. A battery can be defined as; it is a combination of one or more electrochemical cells that are capable of converting stored chemical energy into electrical energy. A battery is a device, which consists of a various voltaic cells. Each voltaic cell consists of two half cells connected in series by a conductive electrolyte holding anions and cat ions. One half-cell includes electrolyte and the electrode to which anions move, i.
